Scheduling a Post to Publish in the Past

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Previously, we shared how to schedule a post in Core Publisher to publish on a future date.  Now, it’s possible to backdate your posts to publish in the past!

To backdate a post, first follow the Creating a Post instructions. Make sure to check the “Publish” checkbox in the Saving and publishing section. Next, select Authoring information from the bottom block.

In the “Authored on” field, enter the date and time that you want the post to publish on. You must use the following format: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS -0500. Please do not edit the -0500.

Click the “Save post” button to save. You will notice that the post will show up in your River or Mini-River of News in chronological order.

Connecting to Your Community With Google+

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Thanks for Nathan from KUT News in Austin, TX for the enthusiastic heads-up on this!

Google recently introduced the ability for businesses and brands to create Google+ (Google Plus) pages, and we suggest that all stations take advantage of this opportunity to connect with users and promote content. This is a great new tool that can prove to be very powerful in gathering and interacting with your listeners and community.

Core Publisher + Disqus = online community!

Core Publisher is working with Disqus to help you create community using your content through comment moderation.

Disqus (pronounced like “Discuss”) is an online service that offers a way for visitors to your site to leave comments and have discussions about issues that you write posts about. From the Disqus website:

Disqus (dis·cuss • dĭ-skŭs’) is all about changing the way people think about discussion on the web. We’re big believers in the conversations and communities that form on blogs and other sites.

In Core Publisher, there are several ways to categorize your content. Topic Pages are one of the more helpful tools for creating custom displays of related content on your site.

A Topic Page is a  page (not a post) that can have an image, description, and title and then a list of related posts. A topic is smaller than a category, but bigger than a tag. For example, you could use a Topic Page to display all of your posts about a local election or a series of lectures or posts on a related topic.

Creating Your Top Navigation with the Flexi Menu

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Your Core Publisher site comes with a default top navigation menu bar. You can use the Flexi Menu to further customize your main navigation to your station and your listeners’ needs.

We’ve seen stations use the Flexi Menu in various creative ways. For stations that are using Core Publisher as your main homepage, you can create drop down menus that link to pages that you have created about your station, as well as your Events and Programs pages.
