Seeking Pilot Stations for new Core Publisher – Apply Now!

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the pilot project for Public Interactive’s new Core Publisher, a new way to build websites and manage your digital content. As always, our new suite of tools and services will allow you get your content online quickly and easily, so you can focus on what you do best – produce and create for the public broadcasting audience.

As part of this pilot, we will work closely with a handful of stations – maybe yours – on a variety of projects ranging from small site redesign/relaunch, to a microsite and beyond. Beyond means just that – your ideas for online projects.

This is an exciting opportunity for stations. We encourage stations of all sizes and formats to apply.

WHAT IS IT

Public Interactive is building a new Core Publisher that will be based on open source technology, so it will be easy to use, fast to deploy, but with all the public broadcasting-specific features you need and expect and are not available with other open source and out-of-the box options.

  • All new system not merely an upgrade. While technically this will take the place of the Core Package, it will be an entirely new system that addresses the needs of our clients.
  • Presentation layer allow public broadcasters to easily create high quality, online initiatives, such as local station sites, special project sites, program sites, etc.
  • Mobile Ready out-of-the-box display on a variety of mobile devices.
  • API Ingest building and expanding the tools available to support the flow of content into and out of the NPR API and the Public Media Platform.
  • Other Tools and Services such as RSS feeds, audio/video management, online community engagement, article templates, search, metrics and much more.

PROCESS

  • Feb 18 – March 19th: Apply online here. Don’t worry, it’s a short application. We encourage stations of all sizes and formats to apply, nonclients and clients alike.
  • End of March – Announce pilot stations.
  • 6-8 mos – Launch.

WHY YOU SHOULD APPLY

You think about online community and content in your spare time. You’re filled with great ideas for online initiatives, but don’t quite have the tools to make them happen right now.

Benefits:

  • Your station will have a voice in informing the development of the Core Publisher system.
  • You’ll get to use the Core Publisher free for one year.
  • You’ll receive free set up, basic design and training.

REQUIREMENTS

Stations should have:

  • A specific idea for an online project – something that you can commit to building and launching in 6-8 months. Examples – small site redesign, program site, content-focused site.
  • Commitment from top – sign off and approval to launch the project.
  • Staff and resources – one point person with 2-3 hours per week to participate in weekly calls with Public Interactive and other pilot stations; go through training; plus resources to build out site, provide content and any extra design or customization.
